Echinacea

Echinacea is probably one of the best know of the herbs. Of the nine different types of Echinacea the most well know and talked about is Echinacea Purpurea. Even in the 1800’s this herb played a big part in medicine and was eventually picked up by the Germans where they incorporated it into there medicine regime.

Every day thousands of people take Echinacea to fight and ward off the symptoms of the common cold, flu and symptoms of infections that are going around. Echinacea is widely know for strengthening the immune system but it is also commonly used for boils and acne.

Echinecea is one of those plants where nothing goes to waste. The whole plant, roots and all are made into tonics, teas and of course juice. Have you had your Echinacea yet today?

It is common to see Echinacea included in the ingredients of cosmetics that claim to be anti aging. As a topical cream its used in lotions, ointments, toothpastes, body washes and mouthwashes.

Microbial infections run at the sight of Echinacea. Combine it with Yarrow and Bearberry and you have a gallant knight in the fight against cystitis.

At the first symptoms of a cold or flu start taking Echinacea and continue for three weeks, don’t take it for a week and then resume taking it.

Echinacea should not be taken by those on any type of steroid medicine or those with plant allergies.

Unless you fall into one of the above categories Echinacea should be in everyone’s medicine cabinet and taken at the first sign of a cold or flu.
