Chamomile

Chamomile has been used for centuries for it’s calming properties. My favorite tea for drinking at night is a chamomile tea. I drink a couple cups of this tea at night while working or relaxing. I like the taste and the resulting effect calms me down after a day at work. The best part is I sleep like a baby.

The chamomile plant has flowering tops which are picked and used for making tea and other herbal remedies. Stewing these tops produces a yellowish liquid that is great by itself or can be sweetened with a touch of honey if you so desire.

Long before all the fancy gas medicines mothers would keep two or three bottles of this liquid in the fridge in case their baby got gas. A little of the yellow healing liquid and the gas would be gone. It is and a lot safer than some of the medicine on the market today.

Before Midol and Pamprin women with menstrual cramps would drink a cup of this tea for relief. They would also have a cup of this delicious tea if they were feeling anxious or their muscles were tense.

In it’s topical form chamomile turns into a bluish oil that is successfully used on eczema, skin irritations and inflamed skin.

A stocking full of chamomile and oatmeal would be put into the bath water with a small child that was suffering with eczema, diaper rash or bug bites. A soothing bath, a happy child. What more could a mother ask for?

Chamomile has been known to be an excellent hair conditioner and to soothe scalps. When mixed with a bit of lemon and sunshine it has also been known to give subtle natural highlights to hair.

Almost all of the uses I’m mentioning were used before modern medicine came along. It worked well. With the advent of all the new medicines, we think it’s old fashioned and behind the times to use these tried and true remedies. The sad part is these remedies work and the jury is still out on most of the modern medicines.

Every day you hear horror stories of modern medicines and their side effects being worse for you than what they were trying to cure. All I’m trying to say is don’t jump on a new product just because a drug company says it’s the latest and the greatest. Many a lawyer has gotten rich off all the latest and greatest that aren’t that great.

If your’e allergic to ragweed don’t use it as it’s a member of the ragweed family.

Chamomile is the one herb that is safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. As I said in the opening chamomile is great just to drink by itself for no other reason than you enjoy it. Won’t you join me tonight in a great cup chamomile tea?
